How to Use Sniper Weapons in Call of Duty 4
At several points during Call of Duty 4, you will either be given a sniper weapon or given the chance to pick one up. If hanging back and eliminating the enemy from a distance is your cup of tea, then hold on to these weapons as long as you can. Here are a few tips that will help you get the most bang for your buck.

1
Always hold your breath before you take a shot. Holding your breath before shooting greatly reduces the amount of drifting your crosshairs do and along with it, your accuracy. While the clock may be working against you, it is better to spend a few seconds taking a more careful shot than it is to fire wildly and waste valuable ammunition.

2
Aim for the chest. The center of mass is the best target for your sniper weapons. Why? Because it's the easiest part of the body to hit, and every sniper weapon is a one-shot kill on Easy or Regular difficulty. As you move up, you'll want to start aiming for the head, but for the average player, the chest is fine.

3
Choose your targets carefully. Ammunition for sniper weapons is almost always limited. If you have a choice between a closer target and a far away target, use the sniper rifle to hit the farther target, then use your secondary weapon to hit someone closer in. If you get ambushed, use your knife rather than trying to shoot from the hip with a sniper rifle. It almost always works better and doesn't waste ammunition.

4
Know what to pick up. If your given sniper rifle runs out of ammunition and you need a replacement, look for the Druganov rifle. This is one of the only enemy rifles that has a scope and is by far the most common. Again, shoot with ammo conservation in mind. While the Druganov may be easy to pick up, you probably won't find more than two or three in a level.

5
Drop your M-21 if you run out of ammunition. Why? Because you're almost never going to find replacement ammunition, and there's no reason to carry around an empty weapon. As sad as it is for you sharpshooters, the sad truth is that once you run out of ammo for your sniper rifle, you probably won't find any more.

Tips & Warnings
Swap out sniper weapons if you're in a primarily indoors level. For fighting in close quarters, sniper weapons are the last thing you want. A shotgun, submachine gun or assault rifle will be much better-suited to close encounters.
