There are many reasons you might want to transfer domain names: getting access to exclusive services, consolidating a domain name portfolio, or because of a registrar's customer service.

If you're a Stargate or US2.net customer, this article guides you through the process of transferring domain names to eNom.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • A domain registered at Stargate or US2.net
  • Your login and password for your Stargate or US2.net account
  • Login and password information for your account at eNom, eNomCentral, or BulkRegister
  1. Step 1

Verify that the domain name is eligible for transfer -- that is, that the name has been registered for at least 60 days, is not expired, and is not in "client update prohibited" status.

  2. Step 2

Log on to your account at Stargate.com or cp.us2.net.

  3. Step 3

The transfer process is conducted by email, so the next task is to confirm that the email addresses associated with the domain are correct.

If you are a reseller, go to "Products" > "Search" > "Domain Registration Search".

If you are a customer, go to "Domains" > "Search" > "Domain Registration Search".

  4. Step 4

Leave all text boxes blank. In "Order Creation Date", select "Within All" and click "Search".

  5. Step 5

Click the domain name you want to transfer.

  6. Step 6

If the Registrant or Administrative contact information is incorrect, click "Modify Contact Details".

  7. Step 7

To change to a different contact that is already in your Contact Database, click "Use your existing Contact Database".

If this is the correct contact but some details need to be changed (particularly the email address), click "Specify Contact Details".

  8. Step 8

Follow the instructions in the dialog box to complete the update.

  9. Step 9

The next task is obtaining the authorization code.

On the "domains" menu, click "All Product Search".

  10. Step 10

Type the domain name you want to transfer and click "search".

  11. Step 11

The authorization code appears in the "Domain Secret" box. Record it to use when you create the transfer request.

  12. Step 12

The last task in preparing the domain for transfer is unlocking the domain.

If you are a reseller, go to "Products" > "Search" > "Domain Registration Search".

If you are a customer, go to "Domains" > "Search" > "Domain Registration Search".

  13. Step 13

Leave all text boxes blank. In "Order Creation Date", select "Within All" and click "Search".

  14. Step 14

Click the domain name you want to unlock, click "Lock/Unlock", clear the check box, and click "Update".

  15. Step 15

Now you're ready to create the transfer request at eNom.

  16. Step 16

Log on to your account at eNom, eNomCentral, or BulkRegister.

  17. Step 17

In the "DOMAINS" menu, click "transfer a domain name".

  18. Step 18

Select "Auto verification" and click "next".

  19. Step 19

Type in the domain name you want to transfer, a comma, a space, and then the authorization code. If you have more domains, hit "Enter" and type in the information for the next domain on a new line. Repeat for each domain you're transferring, one per line.

  20. Step 20

Set the Registrar Lock, Auto-Renew, Whois, and Password options as you wish.

  21. Step 21

    Click "next".

  22. Step 22

    Click "submit".

  23. Step 23

When you (or the Whois contacts listed at Stargate or US2.net) receive the email from eNom asking for approval of the transfer, do so by following the instructions in the email.

Tips & Warnings
  • There are a few unscrupulous businesses that "hijack" names -- transfer unlocked domains to themselves, effectively stealing them. Once you unlock your name, it's advisable to submit the transfer request at eNom quickly, to reduce the time window for any potential hijackers.
  • Make sure the transfer email that you approve is eNom's, not from one of these hijackers!
