How to Keep a Baby's Feet Warm

Babies are so interested in exploring their feet, they often enjoy shedding the socks and shoes that their parents have put on to protect them against the cold. It can take some real creativity to keep your child's feet covered.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Step1
Dress the baby in booties that tie like tennis shoes and have elastic at the back of the heels near the ankles. However, some babies dislike anything tight around their ankles and will fiddle with the booties until they get them off.
Step2
Try putting socks on the baby underneath the sleeper bags that zip up and do not expose the baby’s legs or feet. Some babies will manage to pull the socks off by pushing one foot against the other so that when you take the sleeper bag off, you'll find cold, unprotected baby feet underneath.
Step3
Buy one-piece outfits made from the thin flannel-like fabric that zips up the front and have legs, feet and long sleeves so that you have one outfit for every day and occasion. Use this outfit as the baby’s undergarment. The baby cannot remove the foot from this outfit no matter what he does. In the winter or outside, this still may not provide enough protection to really keep his feet warm.
Step4
Put thick socks over the feet of the undergarment. The layering of the two fabrics usually provides enough friction so that the baby cannot get the socks off. If she can, add a tight fitting booty or shoe on top.

Tips & Warnings

  • Ballet shoes come in baby sizes and fit snuggly without feeling too tight.
  • Once the baby begins to stand up and take some steps, make sure that there is some anti-slip material or rubber on the bottom of the baby’s footware.
