Your yard is the frame around your home and it can act as an asset that can add value to your property. You can improve your yard's appearance with some basic landscaping and regular overall cleaning.

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Chipper
  • Pruner
  • Edger
  • Pressure washer
  • Driveway sealant
  • Driveway repair material
  • Mulch
  • Container plants
  • Lights
  • Cleaning materials
  1. Step 1

Prune the trees and bushes in your yard. Remove any dead branches. This not only makes your yard look better, it could also stop disease from spreading.

  2. Step 2

Remove all fallen branches and leaves in your yard. Use a rake to gather leaves. Run the branches through a wood chipper. You can use the leaves and chopped branches to create mulch or compost.

  3. Step 3

Use an edger to create an overall clean look. Make sure you edge around the entire yard to keep a consistent outward appearance.

  4. Step 4

Wash your driveway with a pressure washer. If you have cracks or need other repairs, fill them in and then add a sealant.

  5. Step 5

Use the pressure washer and cleaning agents to properly clean your entire house. Start with the roof and work your way down to the foundation. Clean the decks, patios, balconies and other get-together areas located around your house.

  6. Step 6

Place mulch around your plants and trees. You could also use it to create a walkway. If you have mulch down already, spruce it up with a rake.

  7. Step 7

Add container plants to your landscape. You can find or create a large variety of plants that will add color to your surroundings.

  8. Step 8

Another nice addition to any yard is lighting. This will add security along with values. Place lights in specific areas to draw attention or set a mood.

Tips & Warnings
  • Hide trash cans or other unsightly objects behind lattices, sheds or fences.
