I am going to teach you how to tie a basic jig clench knot for fishing. You can use this knot to attach a lure, jig, or just a plain hook.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Fishing line, line clippers, fishing lure or hook.
  1. Step 1

    1. Thread the fishing line thru the eye of the lure or hook about 3-4 inches.

  2. Step 2

    2. Fold the excess line back over and pinch together with thumb and forefinger.

  3. Step 3

    3. Grab the hook with you other hand.

  4. Step 4

    4. Twist the hook 8-12 times. More with lighter line (4-8 lb test).

  5. Step 5

    5. Now while holding the hook, take the free end of the line and loop back thru the first loop you created when you twisted the line. It should be the loop right next to the hook.

  6. Step 6

    6. Know take the free end of the line and put it through the loop you just created when you completed step 5.

  7. Step 7

    7. Pull the free end of the line tight while pinching the line and sliding the knot towards the hook. The clench knot should be up against the hook. Pull on it a few times to check the knot, cut of the excess leaving a 1/4 inch tail. (If the knot slides out, you did not loop enough times. More with lighter line.)

Tips & Warnings
  • Check your knot and line periodically as you fish. Make sure line has no nicks in the line and knot is snug and not slipping.
  • Fishing line can cut. Hooks are sharp and can poke or embed in the skin. Be careful!
