Things You'll Need:
- A friend/neighbor.
- A telephone.
-
Step 1
Buy a timer and activate it so that your lights, stereo or TV come on at different times during the night. This will action will give the appearance that someone is home.
-
Step 2
Before you leave secure the sliding glass doors with pins or a strong stick (a cut off broom handle works good) to prevent both horizontal and vertical movement.
-
Step 3
Ask a neighbor to park their car in your driveway. That will give your home the appearance that someone is either visting or is there as a guest.
-
Step 4
If you're leaving for a few or more days, don't stop your mail or newspaper deliveries; it could signal that you're away. Instead, it's a good idea to have a neighbor pick up your deliveries and your mail.

on 6/4/2009 I guess comments do work (as long as you dont put in a hyperlink!)Crooks definitely are lazy. Just taking a few precautions can make all the difference. You have some great advice. I am handling the marketing for a small up and coming company that offers a sliding door lock that prevents burglars from lifting door panels out of their track. We are getting lots of great comments from people that have bought the patio door locks and installed them. To keep kids inside, they work well as a childproofing lock for sliding doors too.Frank Motola from SafeSlider
