In this segment, we will discuss supplies needed to start your scrapbook project.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Acid free Scrapbook, pages, and page protectors
  • Acid free papers
  • Acid free pens
  • cutting tools, assorted
  • Acid free adhesives

Step1
There are many items out there for scrapbooking. Make sure they are Acid Free items. Acid is the substance that can deteriorate your photos over time. So make sure all items touching your photos are acid free. Acidic values can be found in chemicals in photo processing, or even in the making of paper products.
Step2
Lingnin Free is another acid free process. Lingnin is the natural acid found in tree bark. Try to find products that indicate Lingnin free as well, to keep the acidity down even more. This means that the process in making the paper products has eliminated the lingnin from the tree pulp.
Step3
Buffering is another method that would help to keep acidity down in your scrapbook products. What buffering does is treats the paper items with a coating that will restrict the spread of acid from photo processing, newsprint or high acidic products (eg. brochures, Newspaper articles, polaroids)
Step4
Creative Memories products are one of the main sources for Acid Free, Lingnin Free and Buffered items. They are the forerunners for these processes. But feel free to check around, just be warned, not all are true to the standards set by CM.
