How to Fly a Flag at Half Staff

Proper flag etiquette for flying a U.S. flag at half staff.

Difficulty: Easy

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

• flag, flagpole

1. 
   Flat at top of staff

   Raise the flag all the way to the top of the flagpole for a brief moment.

2. 
   Flag lowered to half staff

   Lower the flag to halfway down the flagpole and tie the rope off to fly it at that position.

3. 
   Flag raised again to peak before lowering all the way.

   When removing the flag, raise it to the peak for a second, then lower all the way.
