Things You'll Need:
- Two or more players
- A stack of paper money of any denomination, but all bills in the stack should have the same value
- Familiarity with poker hands, specifically what hand beats what hand
- The ability to lie and bluff your way to win
-
Step 1
Each player puts a bill from their stakes into the pot. Bills are placed serial number side down in the middle of the table. The bills are shuffled together, then each player takes a bill from the shuffled pile
-
Step 2
U.S. and Canadian dollar bills have eight digits in their serial number. The game is played using the serial numbers of all players' bills to make up the best hand. You may be wondering how that is done without seeing the numbers of the other players? That's what makes Liar's Poker such an interesting game!
-
Step 3
One player opens the game by bidding. The bidding normally opens with a pair. For example, the bid should be stated as "I bid a pair of tens." The player to the opener's left bids next and must either over bid the opener or challenge. Then the next player must over bid or challenge. The bidding continues around until all players have had the opportunity to bid.
-
Step 4
When the bidding is finished, serial numbers are exposed, and the final bidder counts the numbers that appear on the bills. If the numbers fall short of the bid, that player must pay each player one dollar. If the numbers equal or exceed the bid, all players pay the winning bidder one dollar. Contrary to Poker, a full house can look very puny against six eights or nine fives.

on 5/15/2009 Tha game is always pleyed with the zeros called tens and ones are aces. Ther are Lyars poker decks of 52 cards thet use 56789TJQKA for the ten bid numbers. In these decks every card in a deck has a second # that is the deck number and is different on every deck to prevent players saving good cards from other decks to gain an advantage. These are easy to shuffle and are at lyarspoker.com.

on 9/23/2008 How do you play liar's poker with cards?
I recall playing a game where there is an ante and then one person picks up five cards and draws (if desired) and calls a hand. Then everyone kicks in the ante and the person to the left accepts or challenges the hand. If accepted the next player can draw then must call a better hand. If challenged and chaught lying, there is some penalty (or that peson is just out), then the calling starts over. If there is a false challege, the challenger gets a penalty (or is just out). I do not recall the penalty (if there was one beyond being out). Last one in gets the pot (I think). Does anyone have any clearer details?
