Things You'll Need:
- Bible
- Bible toys
-
Step 1
Read the Bible. Let your child see you enjoying the Bible. Read a verse before dinner or a passage before bedtime. The more your child sees you reading, and hears stories, the more interested they will be.
-
Step 2
Get your child involved in a Sunday school class. Most churches have excellent programs where teachers are trained to teach children Bible stories. Religious crafts, role-play and religious games engage your child. If your church does not have a program, look online to see if a local church or outreach program has an after school program.
-
Step 3
Use multimedia. Kids today are engaged by far more than pen and paper. There are excellent DVDs, CDs, and games that incorporate Bible stories and messages. Instead of allowing your child to watch violent TV or play video games where you blow things up, opt to give them options that include media with Biblical influence.
-
Step 4
Talk to your child about Bible stories. Your children are intelligent. If you talk to them about different stories and messages, their perspectives may intrigue you. Allow them to talk to you about things they don’t understand, or even question the Bible. The more your child is engaged, the more interest they will take.
-
Step 5
Associate Biblical story with modern day. Considering your child’s age, choose appropriate topics. Instead of Jesus healing the leper, talk about how Jesus would cure an AIDS patient. Look at issues in our world. Possibly get your child involved in a charity or outreach program where they can illustrate what they are learning.
-
Step 6
Make Bible stories fun. If anything is too serious, your child will quickly lose interest. Although the Bible and its messages are very important, that does not mean you cannot have fun with your child.
