Netty or neti pots can be used as a part of your regular hygiene program, and they can sometimes be helpful in easing sinus congestion or preventing sinus infections. The main purpose of this nasal apparatus is to cleanse the nasal passages, and it’s not that difficult to use.

From Quick Guide: Trouble-Free Sinuses
Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Netty pot
  • 1/4 tbs. table or sea salt
  • Water
  • Hand towel
  1. Step 1

Fill the netty pot with lukewarm water. Most netty pots are shaped like a small watering can.

  2. Step 2

Add ¼ tbs. of table or sea salt to the water in the netty pot. Salt will help dry out your nasal passages and will help prevent infection.

  3. Step 3

While leaning over a sink, tilt your head to the side and insert the spout of the netty pot into your nostril. Pour the water into the nasal passage so that it flows out the other nostril.

  4. Step 4

Tilt your head to the opposite side and repeat step 3 for the opposite nostril.

  5. Step 5

Repeat steps 3 and 4 until the salt-water solution is gone.

  6. Step 6

Exhale through your nose and blow out any excess fluid.

Tips & Warnings
  • Keep your mouth open so you can breathe while you are pouring the water into your nostrils.
