So, your flock of chickens finally started laying eggs. Now, you have yolks coming out of your ears. The first step to marketing your surplus is contacting your local agricultural board for quality assurance guidelines. Next, search the internet for a source to purchase biodegradable egg cartons. Then, try these potential markets.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate
Step1
Farmer's markets are an excellent outlet for eggs. Conduct diligent research on how to properly store and transport eggs. The health of your customers depends on your safe food handling practices.
Step2
Participate in Community Supported Agriculture (CSA). Once your hens are reliable producers, you can sell shares in their eggs. Each week, your shareholders receive a carton or more of fresh eggs. This provides you with a guaranteed customer base. Or, you can partner with an established CSA produce farmer who doesn’t offer eggs. The farmer may be willing to offer his customers the option of eggs with their produce delivery for an extra charge. Do an internet search for CSAs near you.
Step3
Locate a natural food store or grocery store. Many grocery stores offer locally produced eggs. See if they are willing to put your cartons on their shelves.
Step4
If you live in an area with decent traffic, hang a sign offering your products for sale. Include your business hours on your sign so your customers know when you and your eggs are available to them.
Step5
Sell to organic bakeries or restaurants. If your chickens are organic, or at least pesticide-free, develop a relationship with an organic bakery or restaurant. These businesses are always looking for reliable suppliers and their ability to offer locally-grown products to their customers is a major selling point.
