The world of live musical events is a crazy and twisted one daft with competition. However, people have been throwing live music events for quite some time in the local arena and making out with some good net profits. Here is how to organize market and host a live music event in your city, and even make some good money as well.

Difficulty: Challenging
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • $500 to $750 budget
  • Knowledge of the local music industry
  • Custom flyers
  • Custom tickets
  • Friends who can help
  • Networking skills
  1. Step 1

Research the bands and venues. Using Myspace or Purevolume you can easily locate tons of bands and venues, and freely contact them. Get an idea of the genre; look at past shows and upcoming shows on the venue’s roster to determine which venues are best suited to which genres.

  2. Step 2

Line up the bands. The best way to do this is on Myspace or Purevolume. You can search for bands of all genres in your area. Make a list of the bands that interest you for the club you have chosen and then contact them all. Make sure to include the details of the club, your marketing plan, how much they could make and anything you deem important.

  3. Step 3

Book a club. Now that you have bands and venues in mind, it is time to book a night. The best nights to throw shows are on weekends. You may have to do some digging and calling around. Make sure to present yourself professionally, and to give the venues a good idea of your marketing plan.

  4. Step 4

Create the flyers and posters. It is best to hire a local graphic designer to create professional looking flyers and posters. Make sure you have all of the details in order for the designer, such as show dates, bands, the club address and maps.

  5. Step 5

Give the bands pre-sale tickets and flyers. You can easily create cheap, custom and professional looking tickets at a number of websites online. Order these and give them out to the bands to sell. The more tickets they sell the more money you both make. Offer the bands a percentage of each ticket sold, as well as a percentage of each person who pays at the door to see their band play.

  6. Step 6

Network and promote. Give the bands each one poster and plenty of fliers. Tell them the more they promote, the more money you both make. Also be sure to hang the posters in the venue and anywhere else that you can. You also want stacks of fliers at local coffeehouses, music stores and anywhere else that comes to mind. In addition you can visit the club several nights per week and canvas the parking lot with flyers to your show, as well as hand them out in the club.

Tips & Warnings
  • Hire a door person you trust. They will be handling most of the money that comes into the club from the door.
  • Always make sure to be clear with both the bands and the club, so you do not have any detrimental miscommunications.
