As a massage therapist having a massage room in your home is a great way to keep costs down because you don’t have to rent a space and if you’re not busy with a massage you have more time at home. Trying to get a room set up for massage is a simple task but does take some planning. The biggest part of planning is to make sure you have a room that you can dedicate to becoming a massage room. When you know what room you’re working with it’s only a matter of time getting it set up.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Things You’ll Need:

  • Approximately a 10 by 12 room (to much smaller and it’s hard to move around the table)
  • Massage table
  • Paint for the walls
  • Certificates
  • Relaxing pictures to hang
  • CD player
  • Chair
  • Small table
  • Small shelf
  • Curtains (in needed)
  • Optional: Chair for yourself
  • Optional: Desk or table for yourself
  • Optional: Other small trinkets to finish the room (candles, seashells, figurines)

Step1
Pick the room you will use. If you want to keep your clients from having to see your entire house, the room should be close to an entrance door. Also try to find one that is close to a bathroom, since at times your clients will need to use it. Not every home is set up just right for having a massage room, most are not, but you can make it work.
Step2
Empty everything out of the room, this makes it easy to paint and easier to set it up just the way you would like it for doing massage.
Step3
Paint the walls. When you get the paint for your walls, try to pick a neutral color that will appeal to most of your clients, it should also be relaxing and calming.
Step4
Start setting the room up. Put your massage table somewhere in the middle where it will be easy to work around without having things in your way. Put the small shelf close to the massage table to put all of your lotion, oil and tools on so that they’re within reach. The chair and table go next to each other out of the way of the table so your clients have a seat to sit on at first and a place to put their belongings. If you have a room big enough you can also put a desk/table for yourself with a chair.
Step5
Once all the furniture is in place hang up your certificates, pictures and curtains up.
Step6
Finish off the room by adding your personal touches. A few candles or shells on the corner of your clients table, a relaxing figurine on a one of your shelves, a large decorative vase in a corner. Keep it simple and relaxing, not overwhelming or cluttered.

Tips & Warnings

  • When you’re trying to pick out your wall color, don’t pick out something that will clash with the carpets (if they already exist). If you have a favorite picture that you’re using find a color in it that would look great on your walls. Also, try to pick a color that will be relaxing to your clients.
