Things You'll Need:
- The realization that you can't do this alone
- A sense of humor
- About $10
- An Internet connection
-
Step 1
Ok, so you already know that staring at the dashboard isn't going to reveal any secrets. Yah, sure, you can look in the owner's manual, but it won't be very helpful. You can plunk down good money for the shop manual and have to deal with weird exploded views of your car dashboard and still not learn anything helpful.
-
Step 2
Sometimes one just has to turn to experts for the answer! In this case, there is a great website that offers car stereo removal and installation instructions that are easy to follow -Car Stereo Help.
http://www.carstereohelp.com/stereoremoval.htm. Most of the instructions sell for between $5 - $10 dollars and you can have them almost instantly!
You find your car brand and year. Click on the buy link and you will be taken to a payment window. This place takes credit cards and Pay Pal. Once your payment is verified, they email you the instruction web site address or re-direct you to the web site.
Once you are at the site, use the Print Screen key on the computer keyboard to take screen shots of the instructions for future reference. -
Step 3
I used this site for instructions to remove a stereo from a 2001 Saturn SL2 so that it could be fixed. The process was quick, almost painless (if you don't count crawling under the steering column to remove screws) and really satisfying to have done it myself!

on 12/24/2007 Ya know, I don't think the guy that broke into my van and stole the radio knew about that web site. He did a really sloppy job! lol.
