Think about your childhood. Did you play with one type of stuffed animal or feel connected to a particular animal?

Analyze your dreams. Have you had a recurring dream with the same animal in it? If so, try to invoke that same dream. Does the animal say anything to you? Does it try to lead you anywhere? This may be your totem animal.

Meditate to determine your totem animal. Find a relaxing spot, sit in a half or full lotus, clear your mind and breathe. Does an animal come to you?

Consult guides on totem animals. Once you have determined your totem animal, find out what it symbolizes. Maybe the totem animal reflects your behaviors, thoughts or feelings. Or it could be trying to tell you something in your dreams.

A journey animal totem may only appear during a certain time in your life to help you. A message animal totem may help with personal growth or provide a warning. In my time we would go on a vision quest. 4-days to purify ones self. to sit in the circle made, waiting for your spirit animal to show it's self. you don't choose it it chooses you. vision quest makes the time you leave being a child and walk into man hood. I speak as a full blood who has walk this road and drank from the cup of wisdom "Whispering Raven thundering Mountain"
