How to Create a Press Quality PDF With Adobe InDesign

  1. Step 1

After you have thoroughly edited your writing project, go to File and click Preflight. This will tell you whether or not you are missing fonts or links (graphics).

  2. Step 2

If you are missing fonts or graphics, find them on your computer or use different fonts or graphics. There are websites that provide free fonts or graphics for a small fee.

  3. Step 3

If all of your fonts and graphics exist, go to File and click Package. This will create a new folder for your InDesign project. All of the fonts and graphics you used in the document will be put into folders. Follow the instructions in the pop up windows and give your new folder a name.

  4. Step 4

If you have InDesign CS2 and you have created a newsletter, go to File, click on New and select Book.

  5. Step 5

Before you create your press quality PDF, contact the printing company and ask them what crop marks, if any, they would like on the document. Make note of this.

  6. Step 6

To create the press quality PDF, you have to have the Adobe plug-in already installed. If it's installed, go to File, click Adobe PDF Presets and select Press Quality PDF. If it's not installed, you will need to purchase the plug-in.

  7. Step 7

A window will pop up where you can select different options. Go to the Crop Marks section and select which ones the printer requested. These crop marks show where the printer will have to cut.

  8. Step 8

Save the press quality PDF and take it or email it to the printer.
