There are many options on how to support our military personnel whether they are overseas or at home. The following tips are ideas on how to support our military.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Step1
Participate in support organizations that send letters military stationed overseas.
Step2
Purchase telephone cards and donate them to organizations who mail them to overseas military personnel.
Step3
Participate in organizations that make and send homemade gifts such as scarves, mittens and etc. Yahoo Groups has several groups that support our veterans by making homemade items for our vets.
Step4
Say thank you if you happen to meet someone who is serving our country.
Step5
Offer to support the local military relief society. Relief societies are usually found at most military installations.
Step6
Invite a soldier, sailor, airman, marine, or coastguards man home for a holiday dinner. Contact the local military installation's family services unit to see if they maintain a list of military personnel interested in joining you for dinner.
Step7
Honor military families by contributing to the Toys For Tots program. Most military families live on limited budgets and remembering military kids during the holidays will brighten their spirits. Military and non-military families can participate in the Toys for Tots program. It is not a program for only military families.

on 5/12/2008 Thanks for writing this! As a military veteran, military spouse of a man who has deployed, and sister to a man who just deployed to Afghanistan, I am happy to know people remember our troops. I think your best two suggestions are to give thanks and to give support to military relief organizations. I recommend that people passing a USO in an airport drop in and give an donation if they can. The USO is one of the best friends of a military member -- particularly a deployed/deploying military member and traveling military member. Thanks for writing this!

on 5/12/2008 I feel sick about the sacrifices so many people are making for the war efforts around the world, yet as a civilian, I feel at a loss for how to help. Your article offers some great starting points. Thank you.
