Maintaining friendships and making new friends requires patience, compassion and confidence. Even if you are shy or have a busy life, you can still find a way to be more social. Having friends can be therapeutic by providing you with someone to talk to you and a chance to take a break from your busy lifestyle.

    How to Be Social

  1. Step 1

Keep in contact with your friends. Even if they live in another state, call them at least once a month to see how they are doing.

  2. Step 2

Do not avoid your friends’ calls. To be a good friend, you need to prove that you can be there for them and in turn they will be there for you.

  3. Step 3

If you have a busy lifestyle, meet your friends for breakfast, lunch or dinner. You have to make time to eat anyway, so why not share that time with a friend?

  4. Step 4

Plan group activities. Have your friends bring one of their friends that you have never met. Go to the park, pool or a movie.

  5. Step 5

Maintain a balance between give and take. Try not to dominate the conversation. Alternate between talking and listening.

  6. Step 6

Be brave. Attend a party or go to a new dance club where you don't know anyone.

Tips & Warnings
  • Friends should enhance your life, not take over it.
