Going out can be expensive. If you are trying to plan a fun evening but don't want to go broke in the process, try some of these money-saving ideas. They are great for couples, buddies or a larger group of people.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Coupons for restaurants and/or movies
  • A sense of adventure

Step1
If you have matinee prices for movies near you, try going to a late afternoon show to start the evening. Regular prices often kick in after 5 pm, so call ahead to confirm. If you prefer an after-dinner flick, seek out coupons for movies. Local entertainment books usually have offers for discount movie tickets.
Step2
For dinner, try an early-bird meal. These aren't just for seniors. If you go out before 5 or 6 pm, many places have specials. Or use coupons from entertainment books or local coupon packs. You can save up to 50 percent of your entire bill.
Step3
A good after-dinner plan in the warmer months is to take a stroll down Main Street (window shop) or walk near a lake or the ocean. Check out a local boardwalk. In colder months, ice skating is an inexpensive activity. Public skating sessions are usually available at local rinks.
Step4
Later in the evening, try a local coffee house for a cup of joe. Or visit a local tavern for a night cap. You can also serve such drinks yourself at your own home.

Tips & Warnings

  • Any of these ideas work great for 2 or more people. Keep in mind, though, that many restaurants only allow one coupon per table.
