How to Transfer a Domain Name from Registration Technologies to eNom

Transferring a domain name is easy . . . it's just information you don't need very often. This article demystifies the process of transferring domains from Registration Technologies to eNom.

Things You'll Need:

• A domain registered at Registration Technologies
• Your login and password for your Registration Technologies account
• Login and password information for your account at eNom, eNomCentral, or YouStart (accounts are free at all three sites)

1. Verify that the domain name is eligible for transfer -- that is, that the name has been registered for at least 60 days, is not expired, and is not in Registrar Lock status.

2. Log on to your account at RegistrationTek.com.

3. To make sure the contact information is up-to-date (the Registrant and Administrative email addresses must be correct for the transfer to succeed) click "Contacts".

4. Click the contact you want to edit.

5. Make any needed changes and click "Save".

6. To obtain the authorization code, email [e-mail]. Request the authorization code for the domain name you want to transfer.

7. To unlock the domain name, log on to your account at RegistrationTek.com and click the domain name you want to transfer.

8. Click "Edit this domain name or change name servers".

9. In the "Domain Locking" section, clear the check box and click "save".

10. Now you're ready to create the transfer request at eNom.

11. Log on to your account at eNom, eNomCentral, or YouStart.

12. In the "DOMAINS" menu, click "transfer a domain name".

13. Select "Auto verification" and click "next".

14. Type in the domain name you want to transfer, a comma, a space, and then the authorization code. If you have more domains, hit "Enter" and type in the information for the next domain on a new line. Repeat for each domain you're transferring, one per line.

15. Set the Registrar Lock, Auto-Renew, Whois, and Password options as you wish.

16. Click "next".

17. Click "submit".

18. When you (or the Whois contacts listed at Registration Technologies) receive the email from eNom asking for approval of the transfer, do so by following the instructions in the email.

Tips & Warnings

• There are a few unscrupulous businesses that "hijack" names -- transfer unlocked domains to themselves, effectively stealing them. Once you unlock your name, it's advisable to submit the transfer request at eNom quickly, to reduce the time window for any potential hijackers.
• Make sure the transfer email that you approve is eNom's, not from one of these hijackers!
