Transferring a domain name involves tasks at the registrar you're leaving and tasks at the registrar you're moving to. This article provides the steps for transferring domains from Register.com to eNom.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • A domain registered at Register.com
  • Your login and password for your Register.com account
  • Login and password information for your account at eNom, eNomCentral, or BulkRegister
  1. Step 1

Verify that the domain name is eligible for transfer -- that is, that the name has been registered for at least 60 days, is not expired, and is not in Registrar Lock status.

  2. Step 2

Log on to your account at Register.com

  3. Step 3

Navigate to the contact information for the domain name you want to transfer.

  4. Step 4

Update the Registrant and Administrative contact information if necessary. It's especially important to have correct email addresses.

  5. Step 5

To obtain the authorization code for the domain name, call Register.com’s Business Center. If you are calling from the US or Canada, dial toll-free 877-866-0045. Outside the US and Canada call 902-749-2056. Ask them to send you the authorization code.

  6. Step 6

To unlock the domain, log on to your account at register.com.

  7. Step 7

In the main menu, select the domain name you want to unlock.

  8. Step 8

In the "ENABLE/DISABLE DOMAIN LOCK" section of the page, click "Disable Domain Lock", and then click "Continue".

  9. Step 9

On the confirmation page, click "Continue".

  10. Step 10

Now you're ready to create the transfer request at eNom.

  11. Step 11

Log on to your account at eNom, eNomCentral, or BulkRegister.

  12. Step 12

In the "DOMAINS" menu, click "transfer a domain name".

  13. Step 13

Select "Auto verification" and click "next".

  14. Step 14

Type in the domain name you want to transfer, a comma, a space, and then the authorization code. If you have more domains, hit "Enter" and type in the information for the next domain on a new line. Repeat for each domain you're transferring, one per line.

  15. Step 15

Set the Registrar Lock, Auto-Renew, Whois, and Password options as you wish.

  16. Step 16

    Click "next".

  17. Step 17

    Click "submit".

  18. Step 18

When you (or the Whois contacts listed at Register.com) receive the email from eNom asking for approval of the transfer, do so by following the instructions in the email.

Tips & Warnings
  • There are a few unscrupulous businesses that "hijack" names -- transfer unlocked domains to themselves, effectively stealing them. Once you unlock your name, it's advisable to submit the transfer request at eNom quickly, to reduce the time window for any potential hijackers.
  • Make sure the transfer email that you approve is eNom's, not from one of these hijackers!
