If you have ever enjoyed a night out on the town ruled by your love of seafood and open-air buffet bars, you may have lived to regret it the next day. Food poisoning can be caused by consuming food that was spoiled, prepared or left in temperatures that allowed for bacterial growth or cross-contaminated by infected food workers. Common side effects include a piercing headache, feelings of nausea, fever, an inability to get out of bed and bouts of diarrhea. Overall you might find yourself feeling seasick despite being hundreds of miles away from any ocean. Follow these tips to avoid a stay in the hospital and be ready to chow down again just a few hours after recovering!

Things You'll Need:

  • Activated Charcoal Tablets from Health Food Store
  • Vitamins C and E
  • Acidophilus
  • Gallon of purified water (to flush the poison from your system)

How to Survive a Bad Case of Food Poisoning

  1. Step 1

At the first sign of food poisoning, swallow the charcoal tablets as directed on the bottle with a full glass of water. These will bind to the toxins in your stomach and prevent absorption into your body.

  2. Step 2

Two hours after you take your charcoal tablets, take the recommended dosage of vitamins C and E per bottle instructions. These vitamins will work in synergy to strengthen your immunity and purify and detox your body.

  3. Step 3

Two hours after you take your charcoal tablets, take the recommended dosage of acidophilus. This will restore your friendly bacteria.

  4. Step 4

Continue drinking your gallon of water of the course of the day. Water will circulate all the nutrients your body needs during this time of stress and speed your body's process of ridding itself of toxins.

Tips & Warnings
  • Buy the highest quality activated charcoal, vitamins and acidophilus that you are able to. Cheaper varieties have unnecessary additives that your body does not need during an emergency like this.
  • Keep charcoal tablets on hand in your kitchen. You do not want to be searching for it in the health food store while in the middle of a case of sudden food poisoning.
  • Charcoal is great at absorbing toxins, but it also absorbs everything else. Therefore, it is important that you do not take any medicines two hours before or after you take charcoal.
  • Charcoal is relatively harmless in the same way that vitamins are. However, it is important that you consult your doctor to see if there are any contraindications associated with it-particularly for heart medicines or birth control pills.
  • Wait at least 30 minutes before taking charcoal tablets if you have first used syrup of ipecac to treat your food poisoning.
