Are you tired of looking at the same old computer screen savers? That waving Microsoft checkered flag? Old-school flying toasters? Or some other commercially-created image or images that repeatedly blight your desktop? Maybe you'd prefer to see a more personal selection of your photographs or artwork displayed as a screen saver in slideshow format?

My own screen saver is a slideshow selection of my comics along with a sampling of the work from my favorite cartoonists. If your computer is running on Windows XP, creating a slideshow screen saver is a fairly easy process.

From Quick Guide: Slideshow Software 101
Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Digital Images
  • Computer
  • Windows XP Operating System
  • Digital-Image Editing Software, like Photoshop

How to Create a Slideshow Screensaver in Windows XP

  1. Step 1

Go to your computer's desktop window and right-click on any unoccupied part. Click "Properties" in drop-down menu.

  2. Step 2

A "Display Properties" dialog box will appear. Click on the Screen Saver tab. Open the screen saver list drop-down menu and click on "My Properties Slideshow." The contents of your hard drive's "My Pictures" folder images will be displayed as a slideshow in the "My Properties Slideshow" dialog box.

  3. Step 3

To create the slideshow screen saver, click "OK" on the bottom of the dialog box.

  4. Step 4

If you don't want all of the images in your "My Pictures" folder to be part of the slideshow, go to "Start" and open your "My Pictures" folder. Drag and drop, or transfer all the image files that you don't want to folders other than My Pictures or to your computer desktop.
