Things You'll Need:
- Internet for research or visit to an Apple store

Step 1
Ask critical questions. Why do you want an iPod? Will you use it during workouts, on the subway or walking to class? The iPod shuffle is the smallest option, able to be clipped to a belt loop or shirt. It can hold 240 songs, comes in many colors, and is the least expensive. The shuffle is the easiest way to try an iPod with the least risk.

Step 2
Will you use your iPod when you run or work out? The nano works well for organizing 4GB or 8GB of music and is compatible with Nike+ which will track your runs. Nanos now come with video capability, too. If you want to watch your favorite television shows on a tiny portable player, the nano might be for you.

Step 3
Do you travel often or have thousands of songs you know you'll need on hand? Choose the iPod classic, which stores up to 160GB of songs and video. The screen is bigger than the nano and the picture is clear. The iPod classic is not small enough to easily use for workouts but the thin design keeps the style sleek.

Step 4
The newest iPod touch is the most expensive option but comes with the most features. It has a 3.5 inch touch screen to view movies, video, and songs. You can access the Internet and view websites just as you would on a computer. The iPod touch can be used for work and play and should definitely be considered, especially if you need web access.
