Conscious Flirting is relating in way that promotes intimacy and integrity both within yourself and others. In the words of Carrie Bradshaw, "To be a couple, do you have to put your single self on the shelf?" Absolutely not! Conscious Flirting is about being yourself while being with another person. Why leave love to chance?

Things You’ll Need:

  • Yourself
  • Another Person
  • Breath
  • Practice

Step1
Start by making a conscious commitment to flirting. Be willing to make flirting a fun and conscious journey. If this step is scary for you, take a breath and give yourself plenty of space in owning your new commitment. Simply say, “I, ___________ make a commitment to conscious flirting.”
Step2
Go in curious. Get curious about why you are flirting, what are you intentions? Are you flirting to have fun or flirting with a result in mind. Open space for genuine wonder by getting curious in the moment. Here you give yourself an opportunity to actually flirt without fear. Remember: Fear can’t live where you are curious.
Step3
Make a choice to be honest. Being honest is one of the most unique and attractive qualities you can own. Allow yourself to express authentically what you want and what you’re about. Whatever the outcome of the flirt point, you begin your relationship with the other person from your authentic self, not a persona.
Step4
Part of being honest is being the first to reveal. Around the office, we have a saying, “be real, reveal and feel.” Although it can be scary at first, be willing to initiate revealing as part of your Conscious Flirting. According to Susan Campbell, Ph.D. in her book Truth in Dating, the number one factor in missed connections is that the other person wasn’t aware of the other person's attraction.
Step5
Use your flirt moments as learning opportunities. If you keep getting the same response, be willing to learn from it and try a new, original approach. Remember, most of us have had little education in the area of personal relationships. Give yourself plenty of patience as you practice your way into competence with Conscious Flirting.
Step6
A great way to reduce stress is shifting your focus from “what if…” to appreciation. In the moment, when your heart is racing and adrenaline is pumping, be willing to find one thing you can genuinely appreciate that feels good. Allow your feel-good feelings to calm you down and empower you to action.
Step7
If the other person declines your offer, be willing to love yourself for actually going through the process. Nothing is worse than missing an opportunity for a great time with a new friend, simply because your fear of hearing “no” held you back. Remember: self-love is sexy and the doorway to more love.
