Things You'll Need:
- Plastic totes
- Hangers
- Hooks
- Shoe racks
- Long rods
-
Step 1
Take everything out of your closet and place it on the bed. Trust me, this is the easiest way to begin.
-
Step 2
Arrange things in separate piles. For example, make a pile for clothes and accessories you don't wear or use anymore. Then start another pile for winter clothes, another for spring clothes and so on.
-
Step 3
Store all the items you no longer have a use for in a box or tote, and then set them aside for charity or a rummage sale.
-
Step 4
Place all clothes that are currently out of season in plastic totes. For the clothes still in season, place them on hangers.
-
Step 5
Neatly stack the plastic totes in your closet before hanging up your in-season clothes. If you have too many plastic totes and believe they'll make your closet look cluttered again, then consider investing in a few under-the-bed totes as well.
-
Step 6
Install hooks on the walls inside your closet for your accessories such as belts, scarves and more.
-
Step 7
Install two rods in your closet. Place one rod higher than the other. Once installed, hang all your in-season clothes back in the closet, but organize them like this: longer garments (dresses, long skirts and gowns) on the higher rod and the remaining garments on the lower rod. You may also organize your clothes by colors, gender (if you have a spouse) or any other way you would like.
-
Step 8
Invest in a shoe rack that hangs over the door. Next, place the shoe rack or racks (if you have quite a few shoes), over your closet doors or other doors. Finally, places the shoes in the shoe racks. You should now have an organized closet.
