John Lennon was born on October 9th. The date has become an unofficial holiday known simply as “John Lennon Day.” There may be no better place to celebrate this day than New York. Read on to learn how you can celebrate John Lennon Day in New York City.

Things You'll Need:

  • Guitar
  • Flowers
  • Candle
  • Peace
  1. Step 1

    If John Lennon Day falls on a weekday, take the day off of work.

  2. Step 2

    Check the weather forecast. You’re going to be outside most of the day and evening, so be prepared.

  3. Step 3

    Bring a couple of flowers and/or a candle with you for your trip. If you play guitar, you should bring an acoustic guitar as well.

  4. Step 4

    Wake up early and walk around downtown and midtown New York. John Lennon loved the city and enjoyed walking throughout it. Going for a morning walk along the streets of New York is an excellent way to begin John Lennon Day.

  5. Step 5

    Eventually, make your way to Strawberry Fields in Central Park. Strawberry Fields is the portion of Central Park dedicated to the life and times of John Lennon. A decent crowd will arrive at Strawberry Fields early so you’ll probably want to as well.

  6. Step 6

    Be prepared to sing both Beatles and John Lennon song throughout the day. For over 12 hours on John Lennon Day, fans sing songs written by John Lennon as well as other songs from the Beatles’ catalog.

  7. Step 7

    If you know how to play the songs on guitar, don’t be afraid to join along with any of the musicians playing. If you don’t, simply ask somebody for some instructions. Everybody celebrating John Lennon Day should be willing to help one another in the spirit of the life and works of John Lennon.

  8. Step 8

    Reach out and talk to the people celebrating John Lennon Day with you. John Lennon would be happy to know that his life was bringing people of different backgrounds and cultures together. Keep his dream of unity alive by making new friends on John Lennon Day.

  9. Step 9

    Place your flowers and candle in the Imagine mosaic that can be found in Strawberry Fields. It’s almost a guarantee that there will already be many of these items there in the form of a peace symbol. Simply add yours to the collection.
