Did you ever get one of those coupon holders and realized it didn’t fit your needs? It had sections you wouldn’t use, didn’t have sections you needed or the sections were too small for the number of coupons you had. With a little effort, you can make a coupon box that will hold everything you need for a trip to the grocery store.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • A shoe box; the kind with the flip lid works best
  • Standard #10 envelopes
  • One large greeting card-sized envelope
  • Pens or laundry marker
  • Decorations (optional)

How to Make a Coupon Box

Step1
Find a shoe box that will fit inside the seat portion of the shopping cart. Although an ordinary box with a separate lid will work, the box that has a flip lid works better, as you can flip open the lid and use it as an area to place things while shopping.
Step2
Make a list of coupon categories you need. You can be as detailed as you like; for instance, instead of cereal, you can list them by brand. Take an envelope and write one coupon category on both sides. Continue creating coupon envelopes for the rest of your list.
Step3
Transfer your coupons to the new envelopes, then put them into the box. Take the larger, greeting card size envelope and write ‘current shopping coupons’ on both sides and put it into the box.
Step4
With the laundry marker, write ‘coupons’ in large letters on all sides of the shoe box. Or you can decorate the box any way you like. When you go to the super stores that have groceries and clothes, the words or decorated box will make it obvious to the employees that you are not buying a pair of shoes.
Step5
Besides the coupon envelopes, put other things you might need while shopping inside the box. These items can include, pencils or pens, a calculator, scissors, the plastic shoppers' cards the grocery stores–-or drug stores–-give to access special sales, rolls of film that need to be dropped off in the camera department or whatever you can think of. When you get ready to go shopping, you can add your grocery list and the various store ads to the box.
Step6
The large greeting card envelope is to be used during your shopping time. As you select a coupon to use, place it in the larger envelope. This will make it easier to keep up with the coupons you are using that day when you check out.

Tips & Warnings

  • Using this box, it’s easy to add or replace envelopes as needed.
  • You can place a large rubber band around the box if you want an added measure to keep it closed.
  • Even with the word ‘coupon’ written on the box, you still might have to explain to the greeter at the super center stores that this is a coupon box and not a return.

I REGULARLY buy over $100 in groceries for less than $10. Take a look at my articles where I share how I do it: http://www.ehow.com/members/momandpopoften-articles.html
