The celebration of the New Year is among the oldest of all holidays and along with it comes the tradition of setting New Year's resolutions. No matter where you look, whether it's TV, magazines or even online, it seems there is an amazing amount of information on how to set New Year's resolutions.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Time
  • Creativity
  • Pen
  • Paper
  • Notebook Computer
  1. Step 1

Like with anything in life, there are right and wrong ways to go about setting your New Year's Resolutions.

Tip #1. Create A Goal Plan.

If you set a goal without making a plan, it's just wishful thinking. Make sure your goals have a deadline and the required action steps you need to take to complete the goal.

  2. Step 2

Tip #2. Create Your Action Plan Instantly.

Your action plan is critical to ensure the success of your New Year's resolutions. Setting a goal without formulating a plan is merely wishful thinking. In order for your resolution to resolve, (as the word "resolution" implies), it must translate into crystal clear steps to be put into action.

  3. Step 3

    Tip #3. Plan Your Process

Take time for the first few days of January to harness your motivation and set your goals for your plan. By not doing this right away, you tend to forget about your goals and the window of opportunity gets closed. So it's important that you begin creating your plan immediately and plan your process.

Tips & Warnings
  • Tip #4. Write Down Your Resolutions This is a very critical step. You must write down your New Year's resolutions or goals and have them where you can see them several times a day. Consider using an index card and place it where you will see it first thing in the morning, during the day and at night. This small step can help you get that much closer to achieving your goals. Tip #5. Don't Just Think About New Year's, Think All Year Rome wasn't built in a day, and your resolutions and goals won't be accomplished by the end of the month. Try to think of it as a year-long commitment, or as long as it takes for you to make them a reality. Tip #6. Stay Flexible Be aware that things are constantly changing. Be sure to roll with the punches that life tends to throw at you. Make lemonade out of lemons. Maintain flexibility, and sometimes you will even need to change your goals. Know that partial successes will come and this is the key to achieving your New Year's resolutions. Think of setting New Year's goals as a way to review your life in general, and any progress that you've made throughout the year. Use it to determine the type of direction you want a goal during the coming months. Happy 2008!
