With this fun and simple method, you can decorate your mantle in a whole fun and new way, moving away from the traditional garland to a sparkling combination of feathers and lights. No matter what color of feathers and lights you choose to use, this snowy and glittery combination will bring a sense of holiday and warmth into your hearth and home.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • A strand of feathers/feathery boa about one to two feet longer than your mantle (or ledge, shelf, piano top...)
  • A strand of holiday lights
  • A holiday spirit for festive fun
  1. Step 1

Choose your space. Whether it be across your mantle, across the top of your charming piano or along a shelf in the kitchen, decide where you want to decorate with this creative concept.

  2. Step 2

Take your feathery boa and spread it casually across your space, bunching it up in spots and fluffing it sporadically, giving a sense of snow and wintery fluff. This does not have to look rigid, but more natural and flowing.

  3. Step 3

Now, take your strand of lights and begin to interweave them into your feathery strip, starting from one end and ending at the other. Wrap the lights around the feathers, bury them in parts, and have them dangle around and off the edge. Again, rigidity is not necessary here. Make it look natural, like holiday lights peeking through the glistening snow on a winter's night.

  4. Step 4

Plug in your lights and enjoy the glory of your new mantle/shelf/etc. This will instantly bring the holiday spirit into your room!

  5. Step 5

For even more glitz and glamor, intermix holiday articles--angle statuettes, sparkling mini-trees, nutcrackers, pointsettas--the possibilities are endless here--along the mantle so that they are spaced amongst the snow and lights below them. Tres chic!

Tips & Warnings
  • Make this your own. Use your personal holiday style to choose colors, lights, and additional decorative pieces that fit with your theme.
  • Always use caution when using lights. Turn off when not in use and set on timers.
