How to Write While in Public

Plenty of people enjoy taking their computers to a public place in order to complete a writing project. However, there can be several distractions when you are attempt to write while outside of your home. Here is how you can successfully write while in public.

1. Choose a public place that has Internet capabilities. This is useful for writing, especially if you need to finish up some research. It’s also important if you need to post your writing assignment online.
2. Make sure to write in a place that doesn’t have too many distractions. It’s not a good idea to write in a coffee shop that is constantly full. Instead, pick a public place that has just the right amount of people and noise that you can still get work done.
3. Bring headphones. You may not necessarily need to use your headphones while writing in public but they’re nice to have, especially if the public place you are at gets busy in a hurry.
4. When you arrive at the public place, make sure to make an area your space. It’s important that you have enough space to write while in public. Even though it may seem rude, takeover an entire table by placing everything you have brought on the table and the surrounding chairs. This way, you can write without being crowded by other people.
5. Give yourself breaks while writing in public. Many people are nervous to leave their belongings, especially a computer, when they are in public. This is very understandable, but it’s still very important to take a minute or two break in order to stretch and give your eyes a rest.
6. Bring the comforts of home with you. Many people have something that makes their writing spot at home special. For example, I have a particular cup that I drink out of when I’m writing at home. If I take my laptop out, I’ll bring that cup with me. It makes the public place a more comfortable environment for writing.
