Strawberry Days is Colorado’s oldest civic festival.
Strawberry Days is Colorado’s oldest civic festival.

For more than 110 years, Glenwood Springs, Colorado, has celebrated the strawberry, that ruby-red berry that serves as a great reason to eat, drink and be merry every June.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Skip on over to Sayre Park, off of Glenwood’s Grand Avenue, to the Strawberry Days Festival. What started as a small strawberry picnic in the June of 1897 to celebrate the fruit’s harvest has now grown to a 3-day event with an annual parade, fair food, carnival rides, live music, an artisans fair and more.

  2. Step 2

The Miss Strawberry Days Scholarship contest and live music highlight the opening night of the weekend festival. Each year, Strawberry Days has a theme so look for bands that go with the flow.

  3. Step 3

On Saturday, catch the Strawberry Days Parade down Grand Avenue with decorated floats, dance troupes, church groups and riders on horseback. Don’t miss free strawberries and ice cream in the park after the parade. So delicious.

  4. Step 4

Gyros, corn on the cob, lemon shake-ups and meat on a stick are staples at Strawberry Days. Walk around Sayre Park and enjoy a wide variety of fair food favorites before the vendors pack up and head to another city or town.

  5. Step 5

From ceramics and jewelry to photography and wood carvings, the Artisans Fair hosts local, state and national talent offering their best works for a variety of prices.

  6. Step 6

Bring the kids for FamilyFest performances on stage at Sayre Park all weekend. Past shows have included a Celtic mega band, magicians, and jugglers, to name a few. Also, ride the Ferris wheel and other amusements for kids of all ages at the carnival.

Tips & Warnings
  • Visit the Strawberry Days website for a schedule of events, vendor application forms, a list of entertainers and more.
  • Bring a chair to place along Grand Avenue during the parade.
  • Pets are not permitted inside Sayre Park during the festival.
