How to Go Fly Fishing in Florida

There are many wonderful and adventurous places to go fly fishing in Florida. The state has miles of beautiful seashore for those fly fishermen that want to experience the thrill of salt water fly fishing. There are also numerous rivers, lakes and streams full of different varieties of fish waiting to challenge fly fishermen of all levels, from the novice to the most experienced.

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

    Decide on the type of fish that you would like to catch when you are fly fishing in Florida.

  2. Step 2

    Research the best areas in Florida for catching the type of fish that you are hoping to catch during your fly fishing trip.

  3. Step 3

    Purchase your fishing license online at the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation website or call (888) FISH-FLORIDA. You can get a fishing license at many sporting goods stores and at any county tax collector's office in Florida.

  4. Step 4

    Prepare the fly fishing gear that you will need for your fly fishing adventure including your rod, reel and lures.

  5. Step 5

    Travel to the area that you have chosen for your fishing trip

  6. Step 6

    Put on your fly fishing waders, vest, hat and put on some sunscreen, rig your fly rod and gather the rest of your gear and head for the water. Don't forget your creel.

  7. Step 7

    Wade out from the bank and start casting for your trophy fish.

Tips & Warnings
  • When you fly fish in slippery waters, always wear a wading belt.
  • Polarized sunglasses make it easier to see the fish under the water and also eliminate the glare from the sun.
  • Make sure that you have a fishing license if it is required in the area where you are going fly fishing.
