Caterpillar is probably the most well-known heavy equipment manufacturers (as well as other equipment) in the United States. There are Caterpillar plants, retailers and rental facilities all over the world. If you are interested in working for the Caterpillar company, there are a few things you should know to better your chances.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging

Step1
Research the Caterpillar company. This will help you understand the positions they offer in their company, how to apply for one and what your location options are. Become knowledgeable about their company numbers and history such as the fact that they have over 3,500 dealer locations in 180 countries. This will be impressive information to know in the interview. Check out the Hoover's website for in-depth company information.
Step2
Consider the division of Caterpillar you would like to work for. Caterpillar, though most well known for construction equipment, also houses separate companies. One of those companies, Cat Power Ventures, invest in power projects. Research the other areas you can contribute to the Caterpillar family before making your choice on which company to apply to.
Step3
Decide on how you will work in the company. If the location is important to you, you will want to find out what positions are available at that location, then decide which position is best for your experience, such as welding or accounting. If you are looking for a particular position, look for those that are open first, then decide location. Check the Caterpillar website for information about current openings. These are divided by industry, then shown by location.
Step4
Put together a strong resume and cover letter. Based on the information you gather about the position you are interested in, build a strong resume and captivating cover letter. If you are unsure about your resume or how to write a strong one, consider having a professional resume writer work with you.
Step5
Prepare for the interview and hiring process. You should be a few minutes early for your interview and dress respectably. You should also bring a copy of the resume and cover letter you sent in to give to the interviewer. Relax and answer their questions honestly and naturally and you will come across as personable and approachable.
