If you have your own website, you may have to search the DMOZ Open Directory project to make corrections, to see if it's been submitted or to know where other people will locate it when they search. Here are several ways to search for your own site.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Search Your Site's Title

Step1
Go to your website and note the title of the front page. This is the text that's displayed in the title bar of your browser when the site is open. Either copy down the entire text or select a few keywords from the title.
Step2
Navigate, in your web browser, to the DMOZ Open Directory website (see Resources below). Enter the title or keywords from your site into the search field and hit "Search."
Step3
Browse the results for your site. If your site doesn't appear it may still be listed, but under a different title. At this point you will need to try another search method.

Search by Keywords

Step1
Select a few keywords that describe your site and frequently appear on it. Keep the number of keywords to just a few, since too many keywords can narrow the search results.
Step2
Enter the keywords into the search field and hit "Search."
Step3
Browse the results for your site. With this method of searching, finding your site can be more complicated since a number of category results will appear in addition to site results.
Step4
Look through some of the category results for your site if you can't locate it immediately. Sometimes the category results that result from a keyword search will not be accurate enough to find your site. However, if your site is listed, it probably will appear in one of the category results, even if it's buried a few pages deep.

Browse for Your Site

Step1
Choose the category most likely to contain your site from the categories on the front page of DMOZ.
Step2
Narrow the category selection by clicking on relevant subcategories. Continue choosing subcategories until you come to the lowest-level category that best describes your site.
Step3
Read through lists for your site. If your site is not listed, it may be in another category or a deeper subcategory.

Tips & Warnings

  • Search both by keyword and title. While browsing for your site will work, it's not the best option. The site could be completely miscategorized, so the search feature may be more accurate.
