Things You'll Need:
- Leash
- Collar
- Treats
- Toys

Step 1
Take your dog to the beach only after he is capable of following a few key commands like "heel" and "stay." Master these control commands to reduce the danger that you'll lose control of the dog when he becomes excited by the sensory overload in such a crowded place.
-
Step 2
Keep your dog on the leash the first few times you go to the beach. This allows you to control the dog while he has the freedom to move around. A long leash, such as a Flexi leash, will give the dog even more leeway for running and playing while you retain control.
-
Step 3
Teach the "Come" command to your dog. Have the dog sit and stay in one spot, and then walk away. Make sure the dog doesn't rise. Keep a treat in your hand and once you've reached a comfortable distance, say, "Come!" Reward the dog for listening.
-
Step 4
Socialize your dog with people and other dogs. The more your dog has been socialized, the less likely he is to react erratically in high sensory environments like the beach. Go to the dog park, walk around in outdoor malls and keep him exposed to many different sights and sounds as much as possible.
