The first time someone swings a golf club at a ball, they are amazed at how difficult it can be. After all, the ball is not even moving on the ground. Many people miss the ball entirely on their first swing. The fastest way to learn the game is to sign up for golf lessons. You need to commit to a series of golf lessons over several months to impact your game. When you sign up for just one or two lessons, you will probably be less than satisfied with the overall results.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Step1
Write down the areas of your golf game where you want to see improvement. Consider where you take the majority of strokes on the golf course and/or consistently hit undesirable shots.
Step2
Prioritize the areas of your golf game you want to improve by listing the areas needing the most help first.
Step3
Observe golf instructors at local courses, driving ranges and golf schools. Look for someone who has the right temperament for you. That doesn't mean you should pick someone who makes you comfortable. Assess yourself honestly. If you tend to slack off after starting something, choose a Marine drill sergeant type who figuratively will kick you in the rear whenever you need it. If you're slow to absorb verbal information, choose an instructor whose patient enough to explain things several times. If you're into high-tech, choose an instructor who incorporates computer software and visuals into your lessons.
Step4
Tell the instructor what you need to work on and then let her evaluate your game. Be prepared for brutal honesty if you want to progress.
Step5
Set up an initial lesson with the instructor who seems most likely to improve your golf skills. Don't sign up with him long-term until you work together for several weeks. Don't stay with a teacher who doesn't fit your learning style. If Tiger Woods can't communicate what he knows to you, he cannot enhance your game.
Step6
If you're already golfing well but want to improve a specific facet of your game, sign up for focused instruction. For example, the fastest way to lower your scores is to sign up for lessons on chipping and putting.
