How to Take a Prenatal Aerobics Class
Staying in shape while you're pregnant can produce shorter, easier labors with fewer medical interventions, and you may find it easier to get your pre-baby body back afterwards. Prenatal aerobics is a great way to stay in good cardiovascular shape.

1
Start your aerobic workout before getting pregnant. If you're in good shape before conception, it will be easier to participate in prenatal aerobics classes when you are pregnant. Take some group fitness classes 6 months before trying to conceive.
-
2
Talk to your obstetrician. Even though these classes are designed to cater to the physical limitations of most pregnant women, they are not safe for everyone. Some conditions prohibit cardiovascular exercise.

3
Choose a prenatal aerobics class that interests you and discuss the class with the fitness instructor. Make sure the instructor is trained to work with pregnant women and that emergency measures are in place.
-
4
Take a water aerobics class for a low impact, cardiovascular workout. Water aerobics takes pressure off joints and muscles, and the water reduces the effect of gravity on your belly.

Tips & Warnings
If you don't belong to a gym that offers prenatal aerobics classes and don't have the money to go elsewhere, consider buying a few prenatal aerobics DVDs you can use at home. If you have the space to work out, you can get the same exercise in your living room.
If you are super fit and used to an intense workout routine, it may be safe to continue that routine even when you are pregnant if your body continues to tolerate it. Some doctors believe that you can continue your workout regimen even if it includes some high impact aspects if you are accustomed to that level of working out. They do, however, recommend to avoid adding any new intensity to your workout after getting pregnant.
Drink lots of water before, during and after prenatal aerobic class to stave off dehydration.
Some prenatal aerobics classes require a release to be signed by your physician for legal reasons. Ask about this before showing up for a class. You may not be allowed to participate without one.
Be careful not to get overheated when exercising while pregnant. Raising your core temperature can be damaging to your baby. Dress in layers you can remove when you get hot, and stop exercising if you start to feel flushed.
