Step 1
Escape before the headlock is applied. As your opponent's arms begin to close around you, shove both of your hands between your neck and his arms. Pull back and out of the headlock and grip your attacker to subdue him. With practice, you can execute this move quickly to confound your opponent.
-
Step 2
If you're trapped in a headlock, reach up with your inside arm and push the heel of your palm into your opponent's jaw. Push up and back as if you were trying to push his head off. Or reach up and pinch the end of his nose hard enough to cut off his breathing. You also can stick your fingers up both of his nostrils or get a good grip on his hair and yank back. Remember both his arms are wrapped around your head. He can't push away your attack without releasing you.
-
Step 3
Inflict pain. Dig your thumb deep underneath the jawline of your opponent to apply pressure to a major nerve located under the mandible. That simple maneuver can cause cause extreme pain. Or grab your opponents scrotum and squeeze hard.
-
Step 4
Grab your opponent's waist with both of your hands to gain leverage and repeatedly stomp on the top of his foot with your heel until he releases. Avoid stepping on the toes, which may be protected by the construction of his shoe. Aim for the top of his foot, at the point just in front of the ankle, where the small bones are most vulnerable.
-
Step 5
If your life is in jeopardy, go straight for the eyes. Jab your fingertips fast and hard into your assailant's eyes. If you can get a set of keys in you hands, let the key blades protrude from between your fingers and punch at his eyes. The instant an assailant feels the assault on his vision, he will probably let go.

Step 6
Pinch the inside of your opponent's thigh between your index finger and the second knuckle of your thumb. This is useful only during horseplay, when you want to gently discourage your opponent, not permanently injure him.
