There are many ways to get kids and adults interested in celebrating Earth Day, including activities like flower planting, parades and spring cleaning. There also are Earth Day games that you can play to celebrate the environment.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Create a game for your children out of recycling in your home. You can create a points system for recycled paper, plastic and aluminum with prizes, such as skipped chores and treats on Earth Day.

  2. Step 2

Point out objects that are good and bad for the environment and can be placed on a bingo card. Create these cards for each child, along with a stamp that is used each time a child sees an object on the card.

  3. Step 3

Locate video games with an environmental theme to help your children learn about Earth Day. Websites like EcoKids have online games geared toward teaching children about daily instances of conservation (see Resources below).

  4. Step 4

Engage in call-and-repeat songs about Earth Day in between games and other educational opportunities. These impromptu songs allow you to drive home messages of recycling and tending to plants in a fun way.

  5. Step 5

Generate a crossword puzzle of Earth Day words as a game for your children. You should use animal species, tree types and other words associated with the environment to help children with spelling.

  6. Step 6

Shop for puzzles that allow children to learn about Earth Day while they play games. Puzzles depicting scenes of the Earth from space, natural landscapes and animals can challenge a child's visual recognition unlike most other games.

  7. Step 7

Draw tic–tac–toe on cards with Earth Day themes, so kids can learn subtle messages while they play a game. You can create themed cards on flower types, bird species and recyclable items that should be called out before a player applies an X or an O.

  8. Step 8

Challenge children with a fun game of Hangman based on words describing nature and the environment. You should give children a list of words prior to Earth Day to prepare for the game.

  9. Step 9

Interpret board games that can be used on Earth Day. You should look through your collection of card and board games to find an old classic that can be turned into an ecological lesson.
