Step 1
Study a map of New York City and mark the parade route with a highlighter. If you are going to see the parade in person, you will want to decide which part of the route will become your "home base." You may want to be among large crowds in the middle of Rockefeller Center or you might decide to find a spot close to a public restroom.
-
Step 2
Arrive at Fifth Avenue very early in the morning to secure your group a spot from which to see the parade. Some parade-goers even camp out overnight to make sure they will catch the beginning of the parade at 10 a.m.
-
Step 3
Wear or bring warm clothing to the parade. New York at Easter-time is often still gripped by wintry weather. Hats, winter coats and gloves are essential to protect yourself from the cold as you stand for long periods of time.
-
Step 4
Bring snacks and drinks to fortify yourself during the Easter parade and related activities. You may have found yourself a great place to see the parade from and do not want to lose it to go in search of food. A thermos of tea or hot chocolate is ideal for cooler Easters, while plenty of cold water is recommended when the temperatures are warmer.
-
Step 5
Attend Easter services at one of the churches that lies on the parade route and you may be able to catch some of the parade procession. Saint Patrick's Cathedral is the most famous New York City church in this area and is located on the corner of 50th street and Fifth Avenue. Expect crowds inside the church as well as outside.
-
Step 6
Check local listings in the New York area for a television broadcast of the Easter parade. This event is generally not covered for national television, but local affiliates may show some of the parade. Stay warm, out of the crowds and enjoy the parade in your own home.
