The shamrock is one of the most recognizable symbols of St. Patrick's Day. Shamrock is basically the Gaelic word for clove (although the original one is spelled slightly different) and has long been associated with good fortune. Wearing a shamrock for St. Patrick's Day is a great way to join the celebration.

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Wear a pin shaped like a shamrock if you want a discrete symbol of St. Patrick's Day. Pins are great for formal affairs, church or official celebrations, because they can be worn over formal clothing without looking too casual or comical.

  2. Step 2

Choose a large shamrock pin with a tongue-in-cheek saying for a party with friends and people close to you. For an added measure of fun, try holding a party contest to find the attendee with the funniest pin.

  3. Step 3

Wear a shamrock necklace and matching bracelet for a quick touch of St. Patrick's Day without overdoing it. Shamrock necklaces are available in many materials and sizes, from silver and gold for dressy occasions to large plastic varieties for fun or as party favors.

  4. Step 4

Wear a shamrock hat at a local parade. Any hat can be turned into a St. Patrick's Day hat by adding a shamrock motif to it. If you have baseball cap, cut a shamrock out of construction paper or felt, and stick it to the front of the cap. You can also make your own green hat out of construction paper, and decorate it with pictures of shamrocks.

  5. Step 5

Look for t-shirts featuring designs and photos of shamrocks. If you plan to attend a St. Patrick's Day parade in your area, you may be able to buy a t-shirt there. Otherwise, you may have better luck finding shirts featuring shamrock designs at local shops or over the Internet.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you have children, organize craft activities the weekend before St. Patrick's Day so the kids can make their own shamrocks to wear. Encourage creativity, and let the kids go all out with the decorations.
