1
Choose a translation of the Bible that is easy to read and understand. The Bible is available in many languages and editions, some of which use a modern approach and tone and others that are more traditional.
-
2
Read the Bible around the same time every day. Remember, you will only need a few minutes to complete the daily reading. Some people find it useful to follow the spiritual readings as a family by reading them together after dinner each night.

3
Review the previous day's spiritual reading before beginning the next one to keep track the narrative and the lessons being imparted. Read slowly and invite questions. It is easy to accidentally skip over a major event due to the complex language used in some spiritual readings.
-
4
Find a partner. If you do not have a spouse or another family member to read with, ask a friend to be your partner during Lent. Discussing your interpretations of the themes for each reading will help you both better understand the content. The bonding that takes place during mutual readings can deepen your spiritual experience.
-
5
Make a list of questions that your readings inspire. Write each question down as you read so you can come back to them when you are finished. If you and the other readers can't resolve these questions, bring them to your pastor.
-
6
Ask your priest for suggestions of additional readings to accompany the traditional spiritual readings for Lent if you wish to further enrich your reading experience.
