Buying your loved one a bouquet for Valentine's Day is a wonderful way to show you care, but steering away from the stereotypical bouquet of red roses will help you win points for creativity and will show your individualism.

    Create the Perfect Bouquet

  1. Step 1

Find a beautiful vase in which to arrange the flowers. Use your imagination. An old watering can or your significant other's favorite basket might be the perfect container. If you are using a container that can't hold water, place a jar or vase inside the container.

  2. Step 2

Choose an arrangement. Go for a traditional look with roses and accent flowers, or for a tropical arrangement full of orchids and greenery. Go large if you like. Your loved one might prefer a country cottage bouquet full of wildflowers.

  3. Step 3

Find the flowers you want. For Valentine's Day, a florist will probably be your best bet, but many grocery stores often carry inexpensive flowers. You could also make an arrangement of artificial flowers, which can be bought at many craft stores.

  4. Step 4

Once you have the flowers, cut the stems on a slant and place them immediately into water.

  5. Step 5

Arrange the flowers any way you would like them. For most bouquets, you just need to put the flowers in the vase and make sure they aren't clumped to one side.

  6. Step 6

Put decorative stones in the vase to hold the stems in place. You also could purchase a frog from a craft store. A frog basically looks like a base, but has nail tips sticking out of it. Just stick your stems into the frog and they will stay where you want them.

  7. Buy a Custom Bouquet

  8. Step 1

Seek the advice of a professional, especially if you don't have much experience with flowers. If you don't have the time or creativity needed to create a bouquet, a good florist can help you create a custom, one-of-a-kind arrangement for your loved one.

  9. Step 2

Ask to see the florist's book of sample arrangements. Then, point out styles your loved one would like. Many florists will accommodate your budget by making a custom arrangement smaller or larger or by substituting different kinds of flowers.

  10. Step 3

Tell the florist what kind of flowers your loved one likes. He might be able to suggest complementary flowers or plants you can send along with your arrangement.

  11. Step 4

Choose a special container, or provide your own. For something extra special, a beautiful crystal or glass vase will be a gift your loved one can keep and reuse long after the flowers wilt.

  12. Step 5

Make a bouquet special. Pick ribbons or bows in your loved one's favorite color. Write an affectionate note to send with your Valentine's Day arrangement. This will give your gift a personal touch.
