Nothing says "I love you" like a Valentine's Day card. However, while store-bought cards are nice, a handmade Valentine's Day card really shows you care. By spending a few extra minutes on your card, you can really make it special.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Construction paper
  • Card stock
  • Blank cards
  • Beads, glitter and other decorations
  • Markers
  • Glue
  • Box
  • Ribbons
  1. Step 1

Choose your card design. The easiest way to make a basic card is to fold a sheet of construction paper in half. If you want a simple white card, consider purchasing blank cards or card stock from a paper store.

  2. Step 2

Create a design for the outside of the card. You might want to draw a picture with markers, glue on a picture of you and the recipient or create an intricate design with glitter, beads or other decorations.

  3. Step 3

Decide what you want to put on the inside of the card. If you're not feeling creative, consider writing a simple "Happy Valentine's Day" or gluing in a love poem in lieu of a message. Make sure to sign the card.

  4. Step 4

Make an envelope for the card by folding a sheet of paper around the card gently, and then folding deeper creases after you've gotten an idea of how large the envelope will need to be. Make sure you do this after the card has dried, or you will risk damaging your design.

  5. Step 5

Determine how you want to deliver the card. You might want to put it in a small basket on the nightstand or tie it to your loved one's door with ribbons. If you want to be really creative, put the card inside a larger envelope or box for a real surprise.

Tips & Warnings
  • Get fancy with your handwriting. If you plan to write the inside message, try doing it in calligraphy. Match the design on the outside of the envelope for a pretty look.
  • Hearts are a standard design for Valentine's Day cards, but that doesn't mean yours has to have one. Substitute hearts with romantic scenes, such as a couple sitting on the beach or a recent vacation photo.
  • Play with size. Valentine's Day cards don't have to be large. A small, palm-sized card might just win your lover's heart.
  • Do not put a humorous joke in your Valentine's Day card if your loved one doesn't appreciate your humor. If you're not sure he will appreciate it, stick to a heartfelt message.
  • Do not try to make your card just before you deliver it. If you use glue, the card will need time to dry.
