Craft supplies, such as tissue paper, can be used to decorate your Easter eggs in new and stunning ways. From using the dyes invested in the paper to tint the eggs to mastering the art of decoupage, tissue paper will breathe new life into your Easter egg-decorating traditions. With plenty of blown eggs on hand, you can create enough tissue paper designs to decorate the whole house.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Blown eggs
  • Colored tissue paper
  • Printed tissue paper
  • Craft glue
  • Large glass jar or pitcher
  • Black tempera paint
  • Small paint brush
  • Clear acrylic

Dye Eggs With Tissue Paper

Step1
Heat a container full of water in the microwave until it is almost boiling. You should use a towel or oven mitts to carefully remove it, as it may be hot to the touch.
Step2
Wrap a blown egg in a single sheet of colored tissue paper or crepe paper streamers. You can secure the paper in place with rubber bands or by tying a length of string around the circumference of the egg.
Step3
Dip the wrapped egg into the hot water, allowing the tinted paper to dye the egg. You may need to leave the egg in the water for 3 or more minutes to achieve the desired effect.

Decoupage Eggs

Step1
Decorate eggs with tissue paper with small designs in the spirit of spring, such as flowers, bunnies or other Easter characters.
Step2
Isolate the design you wish to decoupage onto your blown egg and carefully cut it out of the tissue paper.
Step3
Apply a layer of craft glue diluted with water to the surface of the blown egg.
Step4
Lay the printed tissue paper in place and paint over it with your brush dipped in the glue-and-water mixture.
Step5
Add additional designs until you are satisfied with the results.

Create Stained-Glass Eggs

Step1
Decoupage small squares and other geometric shapes of colored tissue paper onto a blown egg.
Step2
Allow the paper to dry for at least 30 minutes.
Step3
Paint thin lines in black tempera around the colored paper. This will create the effect of a paned stained-glass window.
Step4
Spray the dried stained-glass egg with clear acrylic paint to create a more glass-like appearance. A varnish may also be brushed on to create this effect.

Tips & Warnings

  • Thoroughly rinse your blown eggs before you begin the decorating process. Any remaining egg yolk or egg white may go rotten, adding a less-than-festive stench to your Easter celebration.
