Instructions

  1. Prepare the Egg Cup

    • 1

Make dye baths by mixing drops of food coloring with a dilution of 3 cups of water and 2 tbsps. of white vinegar.

    • 2

Dye a raw egg by dipping it into your chosen color of dye bath. Allow it to soak in the solution until the desired color is achieved.

    • 3

Leave the egg to dry completely in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes.

    • 4

Crack the egg and discard the contents.

    • 5

Break off pieces of the shell until the desired cup shape is achieved.

    • 6

Rinse the egg shell with warm water and pat it dry with a soft cloth.

    Prepare the Candle Wax

    • 7

Make a warm water bath in a shallow frying pan. The water should be at a temperature just below boiling.

    • 8

Place an unused tea light candle inside a clean and empty metal food can, such as a tuna or pet food can.

    • 9

Set the can and tea light in the frying pan to allow the wax to melt at a gentle pace.

    • 10

Use a set of tweezers to remove the wick from the tea light candle once the wax has sufficiently melted, and discard it.

    Pour the Egg Cup Candle

    • 11

Tie a length of cotton twine around a skewer or tooth pick and dip it into the melted wax. It should be coated to just below the pick.

    • 12

Balance the pick or skewer on the edges of the egg cup to make a wick in the center of the egg cup.

    • 13

Use tongs to grasp the tea light candle and remove it from the water bath.

    • 14

Pour the melted wax into the egg cup.

    • 15

Trim the wick to the desired length and use the empty base of the tea light candle to display the egg cup candle.
