4. Take Claritin as directed on the box. Most Claritin formulas work for 24 hours and only need to be taken once a day. Claritin D-12 can be taken twice daily.

5. Learn about the side effects that are possible when you take Claritin. They include a dry mouth and nose, headache, fatigue and hoarseness. Speak to your doctor if any of these side effects become severe.
