Things You'll Need:
- Ivy Block
- Ivy Cleanse
- Ivy Soothe
- Ivy Complete
- Calamine lotion
-
Step 1
Use Ivy Block lotion to prevent rashes that can occur from contact with poison ivy. Applying the lotion is very simple, and one application to exposed areas of your skin will provide many hours of protection against urushiol contamination.
-
Step 2
Try Ivy Cleanse, which is made by the same company that Makes Ivy Block, to remove urushiol from clothing, tools, shoes and equipment. Urushiol can remain active on surfaces for years, and it is very easy to contract a poison ivy rash if you do not take time to clean these items thoroughly. Note that urushiol is very difficult to remove from leather and suede, however.
-
Step 3
Purchase a small tube of Ivy Soothe, which is part of the Ivy Block family of products, if you have already contracted a poison ivy rash. Ivy Soothe contains cortisone, which can help to relieve the itching and rash caused by urushiol. You may want to use calamine lotion, which can coat and protect rashes and blisters caused by poison ivy, in conjunction with any cortisone cream for the best results.
-
Step 4
Buy an Ivy Complete kit, which contains all of the products made by the Ivy Block company, including Ivy Block, Ivy Soothe and Ivy Cleanse. By purchasing the kit, you will save a few extra dollars than if you bought each product separately.
-
Step 5
Visit the Ivy Block website to learn more about which products to use to combat the effects of poison ivy (see Resources below). You can buy the products directly from the site as well.
-
Step 6
Use the full complement of Ivy Block products to prevent rashes from poison oak and poison sumac as well. Ivy Block products should be an important addition to any first aid kit or medicine cabinet.
